"Chronicles of Narnia" - the entire series. I love the sybolism that C.S. Lewis creates. Aslan is definitely one of my favorite literary characters.

"A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens

Please don't hate me for being cliche, but "Pride and Prejudice" is my favorite book! I can't tell you how many times I've read it, and I never get bored. (Though the "Harry Potter" series is right up there in glorious second!) :D

"The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkein. It's just so delightful! The best time to read it is during the summer on a road trip. :)

My newest favorite is Icefall by Matthew J. Kirby. So, so good. A king goes to war and to protect his children, he sends them into a fjord that freezes shut in the winter. No one can get in or out. But then they realize that there is a traitor among them. Matt is a brilliant writer.

Probably Les Miserables. I love all the characters, the depth of all the characters, and the extremely selfless love displayed by both Valjean and Eponine. They're my faves. I also love Jane Eyre for similar reasons - she always does what's right despite how hard it is - and I think that makes her love for Rochester even more worth while.

At this exact moment I'd have to go with Harry Potter. I love it! I feel like I apply it to every day situations all the time. And yesterday Grace was telling me a story about someone, but she wouldn't say who it was, she would just say "You Know Who." And finally I realized what was going on and said, "Do you mean Voldemort?" And she got this scared look on her face. It was classic.

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, and Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.

And I think as underrepresented minority on this blog, my comment should count twice.

Alison: that is the funniest thing ever.

My insides get all squirmy when I think about picking a favorite book! There are so many books to love. :) It used to always be "A Tale of Two Cities" without question, but now that I've learned how to not take myself so seriously...it has to be "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".

Are you going to tell us YOUR favorite book?

I would have to say "Hamlet" if that can be allowed? If not, well....Pride and Prejudice is my favorite classic. :)

"To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. Oh the symbolism and the lessons learned. And it is entertaining. And the characters... I love them... Scout and Jem and Atticus, and Boo... "Who's your Boo Radley!"

PS - Have I told you that I love this blog and I love this idea?

Just found your blog! So excited to read through it.
My fav book series is Stephanie Barron's Jane Austen Mysteries. My daughter and I are really loving The Secret Series by Pseudonymous Bosch and The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart, too. For a life-changing, inspirational read, try Mitch Albom's Have a Little Faith.

I think my fav is literature associated with the Holocaust like The Hiding Place or Elie Wiesel's Night. But Chronicles of Narnia is definitely up there like Adrienne said and I LOVE Harry Potter. All for different reasons!

My favorite book is usually the last one I've read that I couldn't put down. In this case, I'd have to go with "The Earth, My Butt and Other Big Round Things."

I would have to say "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close." Given that someone else has already said that and I want to be different, I'll go with "Same Kind of Different As Me." And if you're looking for a real page turner, you should consider reading "The Devil in the White City." And if you like non-fiction, might I suggest "Blink."

I love "The Count of Monte Cristo" (Oxford/Unabridged). I read it for the first time SO long ago. But I still remember that how it completely changed my life. The insight of the Abbe in the beginning and the fundamental idea that in 10 years or even less, the whole world could shift so much that we wouldn't even recognize it, ourselves or others. It gave me a recognition that life happens in shifts and that given enough time, it can change. Such a powerful thought for me. LOVE this book and recommend it to EVERYONE all the time.

For kicks and giggles (because I missed the giveaway but....) my favortie books are:
1. Tarzan: (because it was the first book I remember my mother reading to me besides the BOM)
2. The Hobbit: (because it was the first book I chose to read compared to reading what was required for school, and because it was the first book I ever connected with every single character, jumped at every scary part, and was sick with anticipation to find otu what would happen next).
3. Jayne Eyre: it's just tender.
4. Ruth: rip my heart out and make me a better person; I've never cried so hard Ruth!
5. Les Mis: optimism, valour, foregivenss, and caring during a particularily nasty period of history.
6. The Secret Universe of Names: becuase the theory has partly been proved by everyone I try it on and its just plain fun to try and figure people out becuase I seriously have no clue about people. When we looked up our soon to be daughters name, it was part my personality and part Jake's so of coruse Jasmine was goign to be Jasmine. I go back to this book all the time, so fun!
